I agree with everything in this article except Christian Democracy. I don't think an intentionally Christian party belongs anywhere in American politics. And the notion of majority rule (the essence of democracy) is repugnant to a free and prosperous state. When I click the affirmation statement it does not insist that I be a Christian or a Democrat. It is secular (hopefully) for a reason and I wish the ASP would focus on secular progress in American politics.
Hey Mark! I actually agree that the state shouldn't be specifically Christian (though I do think Christians should vote consistent with their beliefs). If you look at the brief explanation of Christian Democracy on the "About" page or the article about Natural Law, you'll see that Solidarian ideology, although initially developed by Christians, is not really distinctly Christian in any of its beliefs. A well-reasoned atheist, Muslim, or Buddhist could come to all the same conclusions. Hopefully the ASP will be able to foster solidarity between people of all different beliefs and backgrounds!
That is my hope as well. My wife jokes that I'm a Mormon in a Catholic political party. Some days it harder than others to be confident that she is wrong. LoL
